The area along the right of the Thames is Mudlarks Boulevard, which heads past the Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park and the Greenwich Yacht Club. Along the left of the Thames there is a combination of industrial areas and housing developments. Beyond the curve in the river you can see the Thames Barrier.

London sunset, seen from the Emirates Airline cable car

I've been meaning to take my camera onto the Emirates Airline cable car for a while now, but during the Olympics/Paralympics period there were a huge number of people travelling on the system, which made it difficult to get clear shots through the windows without annoying other passengers. Also, the weather was often rather poor during my free time.

On the afternoon of the 18th September I noticed that the sky was clearing, and I decided to head down to Greenwich just before sunset. Hardly anyone was boarding the cable car and I was able to make four round trips with a carriage to myself. Even so, the journey does pose a challenge for photography. The biggest challenge was trying to avoid reflections from the windows in the carriage. As the sun gradually disappears you are also forced to use slower shutter speeds, which would be fine if you are able to keep the camera still but in an occasionally bumpy carriage is not always possible. In a separate blog I will post some pictures I took once the sun had gone down and the city's lights came on - both of the challenges above were magnified considerably during this period!

Arsenal FC, Emirates Stadium

My office is quite close to Arsenal's football ground, and in my lunch break I often like to wander around the outside of the Emirates Stadium which shows the history and heritage of the club. Although I have never particularly followed football (apart from national games), when I walk around the stadium I find myself being drawn in to the devotion of Arsenal's fans towards their club. On one visit, I watched as a young man on a bike cycled across the bridge from Drayton Park, went up to the statue of Herbert Chapman, then reached out and briefly placed a hand on the former manager before going on his way.

There really is quite a special feel about the place - perhaps one day I will find myself sitting inside watching a match.

Most of the pictures below can be purchased as digital or hard copy prints at this link.

On the wall to the left is a pictorial depiction of Arsenal players and managers throughout the years. The statue on the right is Thierry Henry.

Thierry Henry: Played for Arsenal between 1999 & 2007, and was the captain
in his last two seasons.
