The Cutty Sark

The Cutty Sark is a famous tea clipper, built in Scotland in 1869. She rests in dry dock in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London. In 2007 she was badly damaged in a fire, but after several years of conservation work was reopened in April 2012.

In the foreground is the Cutty Sark's figurehead. In Robert Burns' poem, Tam O'Shanter, Cutty Sark is the nickname for the witch Nannie Dee who chases Tam as he drunkenly rides home on his horse Meg.  She manages to grab the horse's tail, which is what she holds in her hand here.
